Salbutamol sulfate
Indications/Uses
Asthma management & prophylaxis of asthma attack.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Treatment of acute bronchospasm Adult 100 or 200 mcg. Childn 100 mcg, if needed, dose may be increased to 200 mcg. Prophylaxis of exercise-induced bronchospasm Adult 200 mcg prior to exercise. Childn 100 mcg, if needed, doses may be increased to 200 mcg prior to exercise. Chronic treatment Adult & childn Up to 200 mcg 4 times daily.
Contraindications
History of hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ thyrotoxicosis. May cause serious hypokalemia. Pregnancy, lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Tremor, headache, hyperactive; tachycardia, palpitation, arrhythmia including atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia, extrasystole; hypokalemia; hypersensitivity reactions; peripheral vasodilation; paradoxical bronchospasms; mouth & throat irritation; muscle cramps.
Drug Interactions
Nonselective β-blocker ie, propranolol. Patients w/ MAOIs.
